Get Ready for International Archaeology Day 2023 in Colorado!
Are you fascinated by ancient civilizations, lost artifacts, and the mysteries of the past? Then mark your calendars because International Archaeology Day (IAD) is just around the corner! Organized by the Archaeological Institute of America, IAD is a global celebration of archaeology that brings together professionals, enthusiasts, and the public to explore and appreciate our shared human heritage. And guess what? This year in Colorado, Community Connections LLC is hosting the event in partnership with Colorado Preservation Inc., a 501(c)3 non-profit.

In the past, IAD has been a successful FREE event organized by the dedicated volunteers and staff at Roxborough State Park. However, this year, Community Connections LLC took up the responsibility and has been working tirelessly to make it an unforgettable experience. To ensure the event's success, we partnered with Colorado Preservation Inc. and applied for a State Historic Fund grant. Exciting news! The grant was awarded, allowing us to expand promotional efforts and attract a larger audience.

One of the most significant developments this year is the choice of venue. Thanks to the generous funding from sponsors and the grant, Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre will be hosting IAD 2023. Just imagine exploring the wonders of archaeology in the stunning natural surroundings of Red Rocks! The event will take place on Saturday, October 21st, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, in the Lower South Lot #2. Picture a vibrant outdoor atmosphere with a tented area featuring a stage and seating for engaging lectures.

But that's not all! Community Connections has gone above and beyond to enhance the visitor experience. They've arranged for various activities, including food trucks and a beer garden, to keep attendees energized throughout the day. Plus, they're providing ASL interpreters to ensure the event is accessible to all. It's clear that they're dedicated to creating a memorable and inclusive experience for everyone who attends.
Now, let's talk about what you can expect at IAD 2023. Three professional lecturers will take you on a journey through the annals of history, shedding light on captivating archaeological discoveries. And if that's not enough, there will be tours at four auxiliary sites: CCC Camp by Red Rocks, Buffalo Bill Museum, Lamb Springs Archaeological Preserve, and possibly more! These tours offer an opportunity to delve deeper into the local archaeological wonders.

But wait, there's even more! IAD wouldn't be complete without an impressive lineup of exhibitors. From ERO Resources to Metcalf Archaeological Consultants, Factor Earth to Martorano Consultants LLC (lithophones, yay!), and Schweiger Ranch to Tipi demonstrations, there's something for everyone. These exhibitors play a crucial role in the event's success and longevity, showcasing the vibrancy and diversity of the cultural resource industry.
In fact, this year's IAD is making a conscious effort to foster inclusivity and build relationships with BIPOC partners. Recognizing the need for diverse cultural narratives and perspectives in archaeology, Community Connections is actively working to create an inclusive event that reflects the richness of our community and the cultural resource industry.
Hold on! There's still room for more exhibitors! If you have a passion for history and archaeology and want to be part of this incredible event, Community Connections invites you to participate. There is no fee to have an exhibit or activity, and we are looking for as many volunteers as possible. Simply send us an email at Jasmine@CommunityConnections.llc and/or Jessica@CommunityConnections.llc to express your interest or fill out the form here. We will list all exhibits and activities on our website (www.communityconnections.biz) so that you can plan your day and explore the exhibits that interest you the most.
Community Connections is also open to suggestions for other agencies or organizations that might want to participate in IAD. We value the input of the community and are dedicated to creating an event that celebrates our cultural diversity!
So, mark your calendars, spread the word, and get ready to embark on a journey through time at International Archaeology Day 2023 in Colorado. It promises to be a day filled with knowledge, excitement, and a celebration of our shared human history.
